Hello from Me + looking for auto diagnosis software

Hello All

I am new here, and found whilst searching for auto diagnosis software.
My dad is an old school mechanic and I am trying to get software to help him get along...

which software?
Well, good question ... I have not much clue really.
Cars he deals with are different starting from VW to Merc, Skoda, Mazda varies series/models and ages.

I have heard about this WOW and AutoData, but not sure how they work, what they do etc.
